Exciting Gym Upgrade Coming Soon!

From 10th August, we're creating a bigger, better gym at Westgate Leisure Centre. The main gym will close at 7pm on Sunday 9th August, with a temporary gym available from 10th to 16th August. During the refurbishment, members can also use The Grange Community & Leisure Centre to keep their training on track. Click to find out more.

Our Gym Guidelines for Young Members

Last Updated: 27 Mar 2026

We're here to make sure everyone has a great time while staying safe and feeling supported. Here are a few simple guidelines we all agree to when using the gym:

1. Be kind and respectful

I'll treat the gym team and other members with kindness and respect. I'll listen to and follow any instructions from the team; they're here to help!

2. Safety comes first

Staying safe is super important. That means:

  • I'll listen carefully during my get going induction and follow all the advice I'm given
  • I'll only use equipment I've been shown how to use safely, and that's right for my age and size
  • I'll let a team member know if something doesn't look right, or if I notice another member who doesn't know how to use a machine
  • I'll be aware of my surroundings and the people around me

3. Keep it cool and considerate

While I'm in the gym, I'll make sure my behaviour and attitude help keep things friendly and focused:

  • I'll avoid loud, disruptive behaviour and running around
  • I'll always put equipment back where it belongs
  • I'll wear appropriate gym clothes and suitable footwear

4. Supervision for ages 12-15

If I'm between 12 and 15, I know I need to come during young person’s sessions or bring along a parent or guardian (18+) if I want to come at other times. During young person’s sessions, I'll follow the supervision rules given by the gym team.

5. Mandatory ‘Get Going’ induction for ages 16-17

If I'm 16 or 17, I understand that a mandatory Get Going induction session is required before I can use the gym facilities without supervision.

6. Speak up if something's not right

If I ever have a concern about my safety or the safety of others, I'll let a team member of the centre know immediately.
